Iron and Carbon Isotope Constraints on the Formation Pathway of Iron-Rich Carbonates within the Dagushan Iron Formation, North China Craton

چکیده

Banded iron formations (BIFs) are enigmatic chemical sedimentary rocks that chronicle the geochemical and microbial cycling of carbon in Precambrian. However, formation pathways Fe carbonate, namely siderite, remain disputed. Here, we provide photomicrographs, Fe, C O isotope organic whole rock from ~2.52 Ga Dagushan BIF Anshan area, China, to discuss origin siderite. There small magnetite grains occur as inclusions within suggesting a diagenetic Moreover, siderites have wide range compositions (?56FeSd) ?0.180‰ +0.463‰, relatively negative composition (?13CSd = ?6.20‰ ?1.57‰). These results compatible with reduction an Fe(III)-oxyhydroxide precursor dissolved Fe(II) through dissimilatory (DIR) during early diagenesis. Partial possible mixing seawater could explain presence siderite ?56Fe, while sustained reaction residual produced positive ?56Fe values. Bicarbonate derived both DIR may provided source for formation. Our suggest respiration played important role late Archean BIF.

Biotic Contributions to the Formation of Submarine Iron-rich Hydrothermal

Introduction: Recent volcanism and associated hydrothermal activity of the Aeolian Arc (SE Tyrrhenian Sea, Italy) have been studied for the past 30 years [1,2]. The discovery of metalliferous hot spring deposits in the Pacific in the 1960’s stimulated exploration for this type of deposit in the Tyrrhenian Sea [3,4] because there they occur at much shallower depths. Hydrothermal systems in the T...

Iron Isotope Fractionation in Zoned Carbonates from Alh84001

Introduction: The chemically and mineralogically zoned carbonates within the oldest martian meteorite, ALH84001 (a coarse grained orthopyroxenite) have been the subject of intense study [1-9] since McKay et al [3] suggested that they may contain evidence for life. Whilst these studies have revealed a convoluted history, there remains no consensus on the mechanism and temperature of carbonate fo...
